For centuries, different nations from around the world have adopted flags representing their patron saints.  In many cases, these banners are closely tied to the Christian witness of the life of the saint.  Flags are flown proudly by faithful on the feastday of their patron saint and throughout the year - and in some areas, are even used when the memory of the saint has been forgotten.
