The Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Holy Community of the All-Holy Sepulchre or the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood, is a monastic fraternity guarding the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and otherChristian holy places in the Holy Land. Headed by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, the brotherhood counts today ~105 members from among who administer the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.
Throughout its history, the brotherhood has accepted not only Greeks, but also Arabs, Georgians, Bulgarians and other Orthodox peoples among its membership. Its flag is a red cross on a white field, the cross bearing the ‘taphos symbol,’ a monogram of the Greek letters tau (Τ) and phi (Φ), for the word ‘taphos’ (that is, grave or sepulchre). It can be found flying over most Orthodox buildings in Jerusalem.
