Saint Sebastian was born in California, and served as a missionary throughout North America, including two years as a priest in Hamilton, Ontario. During his lifetime, the missionary priest crossed the Atlantic Ocean fifteen times and the Pacific Ocean nine times, when he needed to visit Serbia and Russia, and also his missionary journeys to Japan. He served as a chaplain in the Serbian army during the Second Balkan War. The flag of Saint Sebastian is modelled on the flag of Herceg Novi, Montenegro, the ancestral home of the family of Saint Sebastian, and closely aligns with the colours of the flag of Hamilton, Ontario where the saint served as a priest.
